The challenge

As a leading and well-respected accountancy firm of over 200 staff with offices in London, Milton Keynes, and Watford, Hillier Hopkins want to build upon their central company ethos of ‘Do the right thing’ to develop a sustainability commitment that minimises their impact on the planet and strengthens their business as a whole. With three offices across the south of England, all with their own unique challenges, the key is to build an overall sustainability strategy that works at each location and represents the team to ensure initiatives have weight and create meaningful impact.

Our approach

For Hillier Hopkins assessing their starting point and engaging the entire team was vital to ensure that the sustainability commitment could be embedded and pushed forward from within the firm. Completing an environmental assessment and staff questionnaires allowed us to get to know the firm and set some objectives for how we could reduce their environmental impact. Over time this approach has borne fruit as we work with the twenty-strong sustainability team to drive continued improvement.

An overview of our approach:

  • Assess environmental impacts & engage team.
  • Build a culture of sustainability.
  • Set achievable and measurable goals.
  • Work on initiatives that achieve impact & strengthen the business.
  • Report on progress transparently through annual Impact Reporting.

The results

Natural Distinction has worked with Hillier Hopkins over the last four years to take the business from no formal environmental commitment to a fully-fledged & impactful sustainability strategy. By working with the team to understand their impacts and where improvements could be made we have been able to seamlessly embed sustainability into a key aspect of their company culture.

A sample of the deliverables Hillier Hopkins receives are:

  • An embedded sustainability culture with engaged staff – contributing to a robust & successful business.
  • Partnerships with local charities and organisations to promote work that gives back to people and the planet.
  • Scope 1 & 2 carbon emissions have been measured & reported.

Hillier Hopkins produces annual impact reports on its sustainability progress, the latest of which can be viewed here – Hillier Hopkins 2024 Impact Report
