The challenge

The Mailing Room’s background as a successful family business meant a strong pre-existing company culture of charitable giving, however they wanted to create a structured Corporate Social Responsibility strategy that allowed them to create more positive impact for people and the planet. As well as a positive company culture, we had worked previously with The Mailing Room to develop successful environmental initiatives, and our challenge was now to integrate these into a wider CSR framework. Alongside this, TMR wanted to formalise their charitable environmental giving through joining the 1% for the Planet programme as a full business member.

Our approach

Natural Distinction’s approach with The Mailing Room was to work with the strong pre-existing company culture and programme of initiatives to develop a CSR strategy that achieves inch-wide, mile deep impact. To deliver the impact to communities, people and the planet we created a strategy and process that represented their company values and worked in partnership with charitable organisations they support. 

Staff engagement is vital for The Mailing Room so working with partners to deliver regular events that offer meaningful touch points for the CSR programme is a key aspect of our work with the firm. Whether that be tree planting events, volunteering at food pantries, or in-house healthy eating workshops making a CSR commitment that truly makes a positive impact is what our work with The Mailing Room is all about.

Formalising The Mailing Room’s commitment also meant creating an in-house Sustainability Team lead by a full-time CSR & Sustainability Lead that we work with to continually deliver on initiatives. Together we work to ensure the CSR programme remains targeted at impact with regular assessments to ensure continuous improvements.

 

The results

  • A bespoke CSR framework that groups action into three programme areas that represent The Mailing Room’s company values. These are: Developing People, Supporting Communities, Environmental Protection.
  • Ten CSR partners across three programme areas supported in 2024. 
  • Over 28 distinct programmes & projects delivered by partners in 2024. 
  • In-house CSR & Sustainability Lead appointed to manage engagement initiatives with partners.
  • Entire vehicle fleet switched to fully electric. 
  • The Mailing Room successfully joined & certified for 2024 as 1% for the Planet business member.
  • Annual reporting of ESG impact produced – 2024 Impact Report can be viewed here
  • 2024 Partners Day to strengthen the partner network and power further impact creation through collaboration.
